After Foxboro scored in the second quarter, Smith answered with a 63 yard TD. Smith ran for two more scores in the quarter; unfortunately for Mansfield they were both called back because of penalties The game turned after Foxboro scored early in the third quarter to go up 12-6. But on the extra point attempt Kerry Taylor crunched the Foxboro QB causing a fumble that he picked up and returned 80 yards for two points.
Taylor's superb play woke up Mansfield, which scored on their next three drives.
Coach Redding said "We have never had a grind-it-out game like that, our offensive line took over, and our defense didn't give them anything after that first drive in the second half. This was a big momentum game for us with the Super Bowl next week, besides it's always fun to beat Foxboro."
