Heros corner

MANSFIELD -- The Gridiron Club dedicated what it is calling a "Salute to Service" at the high school football field Sept. 14.
The structure includes seven flag poles with flags from the various military services as well as the American flag.
Located in the west end of the football field, it will be called "Hero's Corner."
Photos from the event.

Mansfield High School Football Program
Mission statement

Provide student athletes an enjoyable, rewarding experience in athletics that also allows them to develop skills and values that will afford them the opportunity to be successful, contributing members of the 21st century society.
We consider ourselves a "college prep" program on and off the field and we will do everything we can to prepare your son to be accepted to a competitive college or university of his choice and, if interested, to continue his playing career on the college level.

Academics:

Attentive, involved and respectful in the classroom.
Conscientious in completing assignments and preparing for evaluations.
Long-term preparation to earn a college degree and pursue a rewarding career.

Goal: Pass all classes and earn Honor roll status (team goal 80%)

Citizenship:

Accept the challenges and responsibilities of leadership.
Be enthusiastic role models for younger student athletes by example.
Become involved in school and community activities.
Volunteer your time to help others who are less able or less fortunate.

Example: Volunteer for leaf raking for the elderly, Relay for Life, Student Gov't.

Athletics:

Develop an appreciation for hard work, preparation and commitment.
Compete with your best effort and intensity, but always with sportsmanship.
Build teamwork skills and the ability to work toward goals with others.
Represent the school and community with pride and class in all areas.

Win with class, lose with dignity, but never surrender!
Team unity is most important in times of adversity!

Leadership Training

The Mansfield coaching staff runs a leadership training seminar once a month for members of the football team.

During these sessions a verity of subjects are covered:
1-Goal setting (Personal life goals, scholastic goals and athletic goals)
2-Handling problem social situations.
3-Involvement in community activities.
4-Honoring the traditions established by their predecessors.
5-Proper nutrition/healthy lifestyles.
6-Team building activities.

These and many other subjects are discussed. Attendance is voluntary.
The object of these seminars is to help make the students a more responsible member of the school and community at large.

The coaching staff believes that it is our responsibility to engage these student athletes in a leadership curriculum. We believe that our student athletes are members of the community first and football players second. By developing the character of our players we believe they will become life-long contributing members of the community.
